Creating an ADT Profile in ABS 2007

You want to use all of the Architectural Desktop features that are included in Autodesk® Building Systems, but you noticed that the Architectural Desktop workspace does not contain all of the necessary tool palettes or settings.

You will need to create a new profile that is configured to use all of the Architectural Desktop resource. Follow the steps below:

Create the New Profile

  1. Start Building Systems.
  2. On the Format menu, click Options.
  3. In the Options dialog box, click the Profiles tab.
  4. On the Profiles tab, set the “Building Engineering – US Imperial” profile to current.
  5. Select the Add to List option, and then enter Architectural Desktop as the name.
  6. Click Apply and Close.
  7. Select your new profile and click Set Current.

Configure File Settings

  1. In the Options dialog box, click the Files tab.
  2. On the Files tab, select the file under Customization Files > Main Customization File.
  3. Click Browse. Browse to the C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Autodesk\ABS 2007\enu\Support directory and select the adt.cui file. Click Open.
  4. Select the file under Template Settings > Default Template File Name for QNEW.
  5. Click Browse. Browse to the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\ABS 2007\enu\Template directory and select the Aec Model (Imperial Ctb).dwt file. Click Open.
  6. Select the file under Template Settings > Default Template for Sheet Creation and Page Setup Overrides.
  7. Click Browse. Browse to the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\ABS 2007\enu\Template directory and select the Aec Sheet (Imperial Ctb).dwt file. Click Open.
  8. Select the path under Tool Palettes File Locations that ends with "WorkspaceCatalog(BuildingSystems)."
  9. Click Browse. Browse to the C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Autodesk\ABS 2007\enu\Support\WorkspaceCatalog (Imperial) directory.
  10. Click OK to set this Tool Palette path.

Configure AEC Project Defaults Settings

  1. In the Options dialog box, click the AEC Project Defaults tab.
  2. Browse to the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\ABS 2007\enu\Template directory and update the Aec Model (Imperial Ctb).dwt file.
    Default Project Templates > Construct Template File
    Default Project Templates > Element Template File
    Default Project Templates > Model View Template File
    Default Project Templates > Section/Elevation Template File
    Default Project Templates > Detail View Template File
  3. Select the file under Default Project Templates > Sheet Set Template.
  4. Click Browse. Browse to the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\ABS 2007\enu\Template directory and select the Aec Sheet (Imperial Ctb).dwt file. Click Open.
  5. Click OK.

Configuring Layer Standards

  1. On the Format menu, click Layer Management > Select Layer Standard.
  2. Click the […] button to select the Layer Standards file.
  3. Browse to the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\ABS 2007\enu\Layers directory and select the AecbLayerStd.dwg file. Click Open.
  4. In the Layer Key Style drop-down menu, select AIA (256 Color).
  5. In the Drawing Setup dialog box, select the Save as Default check box.
  6. Select the "Always import Layer Key Style when first used in drawing" check box and the "Immediate and independent layer on/off control of display components" check box.
  7. Click OK.

Creating a Shortcut to Launch ABS as ADT

  1. Close Building Systems.
  2. Select the link that you use to launch ABS and right-click. Click Copy.
  3. Right-click the link again. Click Paste.
  4. Right-Click the copied link. Click Rename and enter "ABS as ADT."
  5. Right-click on the new shortcut. Click Properties.
  6. In the Properties dialog box, make the following changes:
    1. Scroll to the end of the Target field. You will see a /p followed by a profile name bounded by quotation marks. Change the profile name to "Architectural Desktop" (the name of the new profile you just created).
    2. Change the Comment field to "Launch Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2007."
    3. Click Change Icon, and then click Browse. Select the adtr.ico file. Click Open, and then click OK to set this new shortcut icon.

You have now created a new profile with the same settings as Architectural Desktop 2007.
